Diakonische Dienste Hannover to Unify IT Infrastructure in 5 Hospital Sites with Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS RIS and HIS

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare announced that the German hospital group Diakonische Dienste Hannover (DDH) has selected the company's ORBIS Radiology Information System (RIS) and ORBIS Hospital Information System (HIS) solutions to unify its IT infrastructure. They will replace the existing HIS and RIS at the hospital's five sites.

One group, five sites, one RIS/HIS solution: ORBIS
The DDH was created in 2006 by the merger of the Annastift, Friederikenstift and Henriettenstiftung hospitals, all of which are "Diakonie" hospitals, coming from the Protestant tradition of social care. Across a total of five locations, the group counts 1,149 beds, and provides medical services to close to 140,000 patients annually, including 63,000 inpatients.

"Our five sites use three different HIS solutions. For a number of reasons, this has to change. Our "One HIS" project aims to unify our IT landscape and optimize collaboration across the hospitals and clinics," explains Dr. Michael Schmidt, CEO, Diakonische Dienste Hannover - Gesellschaft für Zentrale Dienste und Controlling mbH. The new HIS will support the unification of processes and workplaces in all the group's hospitals. The unified, multi-site solution will help to avoid disruptions, as well as provide rapid and secure online access to all patient data.

ORBIS adapts to requirements of each hospital in the group
Michael Schmitt, CEO, Diakoniekrankenhaus Henriettenstiftung gGmbH comments that there were many reasons why the group chose Agfa HealthCare's integrated ORBIS solution: "ORBIS can easily be adapted to the specific requirements of the hospitals in our group. In particular, the nursing documentation, management of vital data, and medical documentation were especially convincing. In addition, ORBIS integrates without interfaces, providing a seamless exchange of information." The rollout of the new systems is scheduled to take place between July 1, 2013, and November 30, 2014.

Finally, says Paul Saalfeld, Head of Information Technology, Diakonische Dienste Hannover, Agfa HealthCare was selected for its strength in being able to support future developments in the market: "The company is a market leader and has a very strong R&D department. This supports rapid and reliable realization of optimizations and product enhancements. We already know Agfa HealthCare and its solutions, and we are confident that, by selecting Agfa HealthCare, our investment and project risks are minimal."
