Computers and Technology-A Driver for Nursing and Midwifery Innovation

The Nursing and Midwifery Planning and Development Unit (NMPDU) – HSE West is hosting the above national conference in response to the on-going interest shown by nurses and midwives in Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) and how it will impact on future patient care, nurse education and planning for managers.

Technology for the nurse and midwifery manager has brought about significant change and this is reflected in the conference programme with a focus on audit, clinical systems, communication and integration of services. Educationalists have embraced new methodologies for teaching such as e-learning and the multimedia approach, which are also represented on the programme

Call for Abstracts
The NMPDU-HSE West wishes to receive abstracts and posters, demonstrating innovation from nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals, engaging with technology in their workplace. Closing Date for Receipt of Entries is 20th July 2006. Abstract Guidelines and Submission Form (pdf)

The conference will be relevant to nurses and midwives delivering patient care, managing services, planning and developing health care, planning and delivering education, engaging in research and evidence based practice. Technology has a significant function across all the realms of healthcare delivery and this conference will play a leading role in the sharing of best practice and the utilisation of technology. Twenty seven international and national speakers will present their papers over the course of the day on topics such as clinical audit and telemedicine and its global influence on society. The conference will explore the concept of connecting nurses and midwives at the bedside through wireless networking and mobile devices. Chronic disease management will be examined in relation to care at home via technological applications. Different aspects of standards in health care will be explored including: documentation and nursing terminology and an examination of the accreditation processes enabled by technology.
