Revolutionary System for Healthcare in Patients' Homes

Tunstall Healthcare GroupA revolutionary healthcare system is being introduced in Bexley to help patients manage their long term health condition at home.

Working with Tunstall Healthcare's new ICP (integrated care platform), the first deployment in London, the system enables patients with conditions such as heart failure or lung disease, to make a range of checks appropriate to them, such as measuring blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels, temperature and weight in their own home.

The results are then sent directly, via a telephone line, to a 'virtual ward', where they are regularly checked by clinicians.

Respiratory nurse Maggie O'Shea says: "This system is beginning to make a real difference to the lives of people with long-term conditions. It means that if patients are feeling unwell they can measure their health in these key areas, and get help and advice as soon as possible.

"The results are monitored and if they need any help at all, a nurse will call them, visit, or do whatever is appropriate to reassure them and ensure their condition does not get any worse."

Telehealth means that patients only have to go to hospital if absolutely necessary, and have the reassurance of knowing that their health is monitored each day by highly-trained health professionals.

Bexley Care Trust Chairman Barbara Scott says: "Involving patients in their own care, tailoring services to their needs and improving people's quality of life by delivering services that are convenient to them are central to the way health services are provided in Bexley.

"This system does all that, while giving reassurance to patients, that help is just a phone call away and their health is being monitored by highly-trained, dedicated staff."
