Agfa HealthCare Chosen for Digital Radiography Solutions by Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust in UK

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare has won the contract to install computed radiography (CR) and direct radiography (DR) solutions for the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. Agfa HealthCare offers a full portfolio of CR and DR solutions empowered by its next generation MUSICA imaging processing software. Under the agreement, its CR 30-X and DX-G units have been installed in all of the Trust's radiology departments. In addition, four DR rooms are being installed within the Derriford Hospital Accident and Emergency (A&E) department. Two of the rooms will have DX-D 300 DR units; the other two will be fitted with Agfa HealthCare's DX-D 600 DR system.

Plymouth Hospitals is the largest hospital trust in the South West peninsula and is a teaching trust in partnership with the Peninsula Medical School. It offers a full range of general hospital services to around 450,000 people in the region. Within the Trust, the 900-bed Derriford Hospital serves Plymouth and nearby areas. In addition, it provides tertiary cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery and renal transplant surgery for the whole of the South West Peninsula. The hospital is used for clinical training of medical students from the Peninsula Medical School.

Installation brings immediate results

Jan Davies, Superintendent Radiographer at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust said: "This was an important imaging project for us. Following the installations we saw immediate benefits, with the quality of the images and the ability to use CsI detectors to provide the potential for us to reduce patient dose."

The CR solutions installed include:

  • CR 30-X digitizer: high-volume tabletop CR system;
  • DX-G: next-generation digitizer supporting both standard phosphor plates and needle-based detectors.

The DR rooms installed in the Derriford Hospital A&E department include:

  • DX-D 600: fully automated DR room combining state-of-the-art design with Agfa HealthCare's top-of-the-line image quality;
  • DX-D 300: flexible and ergonomic DR system offering excellent image quality and complete convenience.
