IHE-Europe Connects the Continents in Istanbul

The IHE European Connectathon, the landmark testing event for health IT systems, takes interoperability to a new level gathering actors from across Europe and the Middle East to achieve the safe exchange of medical information and improve patient care. The theme "Connecting the Continents" will be realized with the first IHE International World Summit, the Projectathon testing the cross-border exchange of patient data, and meetings of international organizations, as well as the core testing activity of Connectathon among multi-national vendors of health information software and hardware.

"IHE-Europe has progressed steadily from the Atlantic along the Baltic, the Mediterranean and now to the Black Sea with more nations and more companies adopting a collaborative, standards-based method to seamlessly share patient information," said Lapo Bertini, IHE-Europe vendor Co-Chair.

Bertini said a two-day congress dedicated to interoperability organized by the Turkish Medical Informatics Association for April 17-19 during Connectathon marks a milestone in this expansion of IHE with a robust participation of academics, developers, chief executives, hospital administrators and representatives from the Turkish Ministry of Health.

Also in parallel with the Connectathon, the first-ever IHE International World Summit will attract global attendance from hospital executives, leaders of regional health IT projects, and vendors on April 16-18 for sessions focused on implementing IHE profiles.

Connectathon 2013 will also see testing of the expanded portfolio of IHE profiles including the Hospital Medication Workflow (HMW), Cross-Enterprise Document Workflow (XDW) and the Mammography Image Integration Profile (MAMMO).

Organized by IHE-Services, the intensive five-day connectivity marathon, or Connectathon, is managed by the enhanced Gazelle platform with a stability of performance that won praise at the North American Connectathon held in January, 2013 in Chicago.

Hosted at the majestic Haliç Congress Center along the shores of the world famous Golden Horn, Connectathon 2013 will be jointly sponsored by the Turkish Medical Informatics Association, the Turkish Society of Radiology (TurkRAD), and the Association for Medical Imaging Diagnosis and Treatment Technologies (TıpGörDer).
