First DataBank Champions Patient Safety

First DataBankPatient safety is a mission critical business goal for First DataBank, the UK's leading provider of drug databases and active clinical decision support. To highlight its vision of a world free of medication errors, First DataBank is again sponsoring the 'best use of IT to promote patient safety' category of the E-Health Insider Awards in association with BT.

This particular award seeks to highlight the role that IT can play in making patient care and treatment safer. If you feel your organisation has a great story to tell in this key area of healthcare then do not delay - entries are open now and close on 4 June.

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

  • How your work has applied IT or information management techniques to deliver proved patient safety gains and/or achieve significant risk reduction
  • How the advance(s) you describe work in clinical practice
  • How the advance(s) you describe could be replicated elsewhere.

Last year, Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Psychotherapy/ITC Service was the winner in this category for its innovative 'P2P' internet–based support network, which provides community/out of hours support for people with personality disorders.

Nominees and others are invited to attend the awards ceremony on 6 October at the Grand Connaught Rooms in central London for a prestigious evening of entertainment, food and celebration.

The E-Health Insider Awards in Association with BT are now in their fourth year. They have been extended this year to include a new category for major products. There is also a new head of the judging panel - Christine Connelly, the Department of Health's chief information officer.

Entries for all nine categories of E-Health Insider Awards 2010 in association with BT close on 4 June.
