Swedish Start-Up Axiomatics Leads the Way in the New Access Control Standard

Axiomatics will supply the new XACML based security system - building on its Delegent Authorization Server - for the Swedish Medical Care Advice Service's ground-breaking information provision project. Together with Logica in Sweden, Axiomatics will supply an IT solution that enables healthcare workers around the country to securely access patients' medical history.

As part of its commitment to utilize the latest technology and improve its services to patients, the Medical Care Advice Service (SVR) in Sweden has launched the Basic Services for the Provision of Information (BIF) project. The goal of the project is to develop a solution that provides healthcare workers with secure access to patient records throughout the country, whilst preserving patients' integrity.

BIF is the first wide-scale national project using the XACML standard. The project will develop traditional security functions such as authentication, authorization and logging based on new XML-based standards for Service Oriented Architecture.

"BIF will be based on several open standards including XACML. We're very happy that the Swedish company, Axiomatics, a world leader in XACML, will provide this part of the solution. The Company provides state-of-the-art products and services, which is backed up by their active engagement in the XACML technical committee" says Mats Hagner, Project Manager at SVR.

Axiomatics is the only partner working together with Logica in the BIF project. Axiomatics will provide the XACML solution with its authorization management product Delegent 2.0, the most advanced XACML product suite on the market today.

XACML, eXtensible Access Control Markup Language, is an attribute based access control language that includes all known access control models, such as role based access control. XACML is a standard developed by the Organization for Advancement for Structured Information Standards (OASIS).
