"Accessible Innovations" from Siemens Pays Off

To address these challenges proactively, Siemens Healthcare launched the worldwide initiative Agenda 2013, which combines commitment to advanced, patient-centered technology with increased consideration of economic aspects. Under the name "Accessible Innovations," Siemens offers high-quality imaging methods that feature excellent image quality, high process efficiency and lower total cost of ownership. Since launching Agenda 2013 in November 2011, Siemens has introduced under its Accessible Innovations banner the Somatom Perspective CT scanner, the Multix Fusion X-ray system, and the Acuson S1000 ultrasound system. At the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2012, Siemens' Accessible Innovations offerings will expand with the introduction of the Magnetom Spectra 3-Tesla MRI system.

Magnetic resonance imaging: Magnetom Spectra brings 3-Tesla imaging to clinical routine
The Magnetom Spectra magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system expands Siemens Healthcare's product portfolio in MRI. Due to their superior image quality and detail resolution as well as the higher level of investment they require, 3-Tesla MRI systems have been used mainly for clinical research until now. With the Magnetom Spectra, Siemens brings 3-Tesla MRI to hospitals and practices for implementation into general healthcare. The system's total cost of ownership (TCO) - which includes, among other things, space and energy requirements in addition to the purchasing price - could be reduced significantly: Magnetom Spectra customers pay only up to half of what they would have paid five years ago for a 3-Tesla MRI research system. Moreover, the Magnetom Spectra offers the same solutions for user-friendliness and increased productivity as Siemens' latest high-end MRI systems.

Ultrasound: First-class technology for a wider range of customers and patients
With the Acuson S1000 ultrasound system, Siemens offers access to premium imaging performance at an exceptional cost of ownership. Featuring a complete suite of transducers and capable of performing up to 27 different exam types, the Acuson S1000 system accommodates a wide spectrum of patients, body types and disciplines, ranging from radiology and general imaging, including shared service, to obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), and pediatric imaging. The system supports a full range of advanced and proven Siemens Ultrasound technologies and features, including strain imaging capabilities, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and intracardiac echocardiography using the Acuson AcuNav catheter. Users can move easily between the Acuson S Family systems, since no learning curve exists and Siemens transducers are compatible with all Acuson S Family solutions. An upgrade path to Siemens' ultra-premium technologies is currently available exclusively within the Acuson S Family of products.

Computed tomography: Somatom Perspective brings economic efficiency with eMode
The Somatom Perspective is a highly efficient 128-slice computed tomography (CT) system with a purchasing price comparable to a current 64-slice CT. This is the first CT system to use the eMode functionality, which determines the best correlation between dose, financial efficiency, and image quality, and adjusts the required scan parameters automatically. This relieves wear and tear on the CT and increases its life cycle. Special service agreements guarantee additional benefits when the unit is used frequently in the eMode. The Somatom Perspective uses less space and less energy than other CT scanners, which further reduces its total cost of ownership.

Radiography: Multix Fusion offers system versions for all customer groups
With the new Multix Fusion radiography system, Siemens brings proven high-end technology to general healthcare. The Multix Fusion offers many components of high-end systems, such as the height-adjustable, 300-kilogram capacity examination table. Thanks to its high reliability and attractive service contracts, the system's operating costs are also comparatively low. With the Multix Fusion, customers can choose among several system variants - from the simplest version with ceiling-mounted tube and mobile detector to the complete X-ray system, which includes table and Bucky wall stand. The Multix Fusion is available in an analog as well as a digital version, with easy upgradeability.

Agenda 2013 is a two-year global initiative to further strengthen the Healthcare Sector's innovative power and competitiveness. Specific measures will be implemented in four fields of action: Innovation, Competitiveness, Regional Footprint, and People Development.
