Victoria Community Hospital, UK, 'Fast Forwards' to Digital Imaging with Fully Automatic Agfa HealthCare DX-D 600 DR Room

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare announces that the Victoria Community Hospital, part of the Dorset HealthCare University NHS Trust, has replaced its analog X-ray room with a fully automatic DX-D 600 direct radiography (DR) system with MUSICA workstation. The new room, which will offer the local community a vital health resource, was officially opened on 24 September 2014 by the Mayor of Wimborne, Councillor Andy Hampton.

Enhancing diagnostic imaging services for the local community
Victoria Community Hospital provides many services, including inpatient care, elderly care rehabilitation, outpatient services, therapy services, a minor injuries unit and minor, general and day surgery (endoscopy).

In order to continue to provide a high level of diagnostic imaging services to the local community, the Trust decided to upgrade from analog X-ray to digital X-ray. Agfa HealthCare's Fast Forward to Digital program was selected for this project. The program gives healthcare facilities a path to DR, which offers a host of benefits including improved workflow and reduced examination time, immediate verification of patient positioning and image quality, improved accuracy of patient identification and the potential for dose reduction when Cesium-based detectors are used.

Greater patient comfort and safety
For the Victoria Community Hospital, the Trust chose the fully automatic DX-D 600 DR room with NX workstation. Fully motorized and auto-positioning, the DX-D 600 is ideal for facilities with a high patient load that are looking to streamline workflow to increase patient comfort.

The DX-D 600 comes with Agfa HealthCare's 'gold standard' MUSICA image processing, which offers consistent image quality with excellent contrast detail. The NX acquisition workstation is the radiographer's image identification and quality control tool, with an intuitive user interface. The dual Cesium Iodide (CsI) DR detector technology located in the wall stand and table provides higher X-ray sensitivity, excellent image quality, immediate image availability and the potential for dose reduction.

Improved workflow and image quality
"The DX-D 600 will help us to improve the radiography workflow and speed up patient throughput, while simultaneously improving image quality and giving us the tools to manage patient dose," comments Iain Luscombe, Radiology Services Manager at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust. "This will support us to enhance the patient experience."

"We are very pleased to have been selected to 'Fast Forward' the Victoria Community Hospital to digital imaging," says Hans Vandewyngaerde, President EMEA, Agfa HealthCare. "This is our first project with the Dorset HealthCare University NHS Trust, and we look forward to building a strong relationship together while helping put more of its hospitals on the road to their digital future."
