1000th GP Practice Goes Live with CSC GP Solution

CSCCSC (NYSE: CSC) recently announced that their 1,000th GP practice has implemented a new electronic health records system, delivered under the NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT). The system, part of CSC's strategic primary care solution, is called SystmOne and is developed by TPP. It is available under the Local Service Provider (LSP) contract to GP practices across the North, Midlands and East.

The 1,000th installation is now live at the Broadhurst Street Medical Practice in Leicester, where the CSC GP solution enables GPs to share clinical information through a single electronic patient record. This unique feature supports the NHS vision to centre care around the patient rather than the organisation, enabling collaborative working across all primary care settings. The shared patient record, containing the full medical history, provides the GPs with decision support, giving their patients confidence that informed decisions are being made about their care.

Commenting on the implementation Dr. Simon Freeman, Director of Information and Corporate Performance for NHS Leicester City and NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland said: "This is a great example of how technology can provide better, safer and more effective care for patients. It will ensure people have to tell their story just once and support healthcare professionals by storing all relevant information on a patient safely and securely."

Under the new system, patient records are accessible in real-time to authorised users with a legitimate clinical relationship to the patient. As a centrally hosted solution, data is stored in a secure data centre with a robust business continuity and disaster recovery capability that safeguards against data loss in the event of fire, flood, theft or other disruptions.

The solution now supports the care of over 14 million patients in England - about 25% of the population - through 47,000 users carrying out over 1.2 million patient consultations per month. Designed in consultation with clinicians, the system has been developed over ten years to support the changing needs of the NHS and it is the only integrated primary care solution deployed at such scale. It also maintains the vision of the National Programme for IT which is: 'to deliver the right information, to the right person, at the right time'.

"Reaching 1000 GP practice implementations is a key achievement for CSC in delivering the objectives of the NHS National Programme for IT," said Gerry O’Keeffe, Vice President of CSC's UK healthcare business. The benefits of the system are genuinely helping to transform the experience of care patients receive across the NHS."

CSC is responsible for implementing the NHS's National Programme for IT across 60% of the population in England. Additionally, CSC can now make SystmOne available to GPs in London and the South of England under the GP Systems of Choice (GPSoC) initiative, extending potential coverage and the associated benefits of the strategic solution to the whole of England.
