CSC Showcases its Successful European eHealth Initiatives at WoHIT 2010

CSCCSC (NYSE: CSC) had a significant presence at this year's World of Health IT Conference and Exhibition (WoHIT), held in Barcelona 15-18 March 2010. CSC was showcasing many of its innovative solutions and examples of best practice implemented across Europe, demonstrating how eHealthcare delivery is rapidly becoming a reality in many different countries. Other highlights included the launch of CSC's European-wide ePrescription solution that will provide national ePrescription services following the success of multiple deployments in hospitals in Denmark.

Examples of CSC's projects from around Europe included a number of large-scale National eHealth Programmes already being delivered, such as initiatives from the UK, the Netherlands and Denmark. Plus other solutions demonstrated were eHealth, clinical and care management solutions, plus payer side systems for health and accident insurance, which are currently delivering benefits in Austria and Switzerland.

"CSC is transforming healthcare with better information for better decisions. By working with health ministries and healthcare providers across Europe we are driving reform to deliver more efficient and cost effective care to save lives and money," explained Harald Deutsch, vice president Healthcare EMEA, CSC. "WoHIT was a great opportunity to share best practice and we aimed to show how the cultural, political, organisational and technical challenges of healthcare transformation can be overcome to achieve improved service delivery in all countries."

CSC's innovative solutions showcased at WoHIT, included:

  • National eHealth Programmes
CSC demonstrated how it has developed and implemented pioneering national eHealth programmes in both the Netherlands and the UK.

Working with the Dutch National IT Institute for Healthcare (NICTIZ), CSC helped create a highly secure system that allows the sharing of medical records without compromising the privacy of patients. The programme currently being deployed has not only improved the quality of patient care, but has also led to reductions in the cost of healthcare delivery within the Netherlands.

In the UK for the NHS (National Health Service), CSC is responsible for delivering the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) across 60 per cent of the population in England. Now recognised as one of Europe's largest Civil IT Programmes it has become a key enabler in the transformation of health services.

  • eHealth Solutions
WoHIT also saw the launch of CSC's European-wide ePrescription solution, designed for European countries looking to improve the management of medication and prescriptions for better quality of care and increased patient safety. Based on a successful implementation in Denmark, the proven solution will offer other countries a fast-track approach to accessing and sharing prescription information, between both national healthcare partners and European healthcare systems.

CSC also showcased its Adverse Incident Management solution which enables the collation of important data through a consistent, intuitive web-based interface. By capturing data at every level of care, including reports on adverse events and patient feedback, this enables health organisations to learn from errors and mistakes that occur in health systems to help improve levels of patient safety.

    Clinical and Care Management Solutions
Here CSC demonstrated its Clinical Suite, a new generation of electronic healthcare records which have the power to integrate all IT systems used in patient treatment into one user interface. Currently in use in three out of five healthcare regions in Denmark, CSC highlighted the various benefits Clinical Suite provides, including efficiency gains, improved quality of care and increased patient satisfaction.

Also on show was CSC's VITAE Suite. Designed for care workers and home care nursing professionals, the solution helps drive the improvement of different administrative, healthcare and social processes needed in the delivery of social services, care, nursing and rehabilitation and prevention measures. CSC VITAE is also currently being used in Denmark.

  • Payer Side Solutions
CSC showcased its Health Insurance solution, created to provide a single, integrated approach that includes Policy Management, Claims Management, CRM, Finance, HR, plus Document Management and Business Intelligence. 80 per cent of health insurance companies in Switzerland are currently running the CSC solution.

CSC's Accident and Social Insurance solution was demonstrated which has been designed to streamline the claims management process for accident and social insurance. A major implementation has recently gone live in Austria, for the state-owned AUVA (Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt), catering for 4.3 million people. The new system is now managing more than 1.7 million electronic records.
