careon and dbMotion Partner to Meet Germany's Needs for Personal Health Records

dbMotioncareon, Germany's premier provider for personal health records and dbMotion, a prominent supplier of health interoperability and intelligence solutions, are partnering in the German-language eHealth market to meet the increasing needs for the exchange of medical information. Germany's new approach to health service delivery includes the development, use and adoption of personal health records with its accompanying challenges of patient authorization and the record's use by healthcare providers - both of which will be met by this partnership.

This partnership brings together careon's expertise in the German market for personal health records (PHRs) with the proven technology of dbMotion, enabling careon's offering to be extended by dbMotion's functionalities for cross-linking by physicians and hospitals. By utilizing patient consent tools and methodologies to access data, the user of the PHR can specify which parts of his/her medical documentation individual physicians are allowed to see.

"The German market needs, and regulations call for, unique solutions for data and liability protection. careon and dbMotion will, through this agreement, work together on common projects to deliver solutions to these needs, leveraging each of their individual product's strengths," said Dr. Harald Sondhof. "Together, we will build on the strong position of the careon PHR in the health insurers market while leveraging dbMotion's international experience in the interconnectivity of GP and hospital IT systems, an area that we foresee actively being developed in Germany over the coming years."

The SOA-based dbMotion™ Solution for health interoperability and intelligence enables healthcare organizations to meaningfully integrate and leverage their information assets, driving improvements in the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care. Since 2001 dbMotion has implemented local, regional and national-scale health information exchange implementations in Israel and the USA, with European implementations currently underway in France and Belgium. dbMotion's superior technology was most recently recognized with the Healthcare IT Summit's Innovation Award in November 2008 in San Diego, California.

"Our team is experienced in health information exchange and has dealt with many of the data-sharing challenges that German healthcare organizations are currently facing," said Yuval Ofek, CEO of dbMotion. "We see this important partnership as providing a truly innovative and beneficial approach to the needs of German healthcare. By using the dbMotion platform for connectivity careon will be able to enhance the provision of its PHR content and enable the 'owner' (e.g. patient) to fully manage and control the data while adhering to privacy and data protection laws."

The careon personal health record has more than 20 institutional customers (state and private health insurance providers) and is the most prominent application of its kind in German-speaking countries, with more than 60,000 registered users. Included in the careon personal health record functionality is an electronic patient receipt, a module that allows artificial dentures price comparisons, as well as several health content modules and eCommerce solutions.
