Capsule Announce Integration of Proven Connectivity with GE Centricity Solutions

CapsuleCapsule, the leading provider of medical device connectivity, announced it will work with GE Healthcare to integrate its proven connectivity solution with the GE Centricity® Enterprise, Perinatal and Perioperative solution suites. By incorporating Capsule's Enterprise Device Connectivity Solution, featuring DataCaptor™ and the innovative Capsule Neuron™ platform, GE can offer the automated collection of electronic data from validated medical devices, inside or outside the GE family, into GE Centricity information systems. More importantly, they will be able to distribute the data across the continuum of care to help organizations achieve more effective and efficient decisions on behalf of their patients and providers.

"Capsule was a natural partner for us because of the value-add they bring to the Centricity products," said Laurent Rotival, vice president and general manager of GE Healthcare IT. "The integrated solution will save clinicians and nurses countless hours of logging and transcribing valuable patient data at the end of each shift and turn their attention toward direct patient care. Delivering more accurate data, in less time, while enhancing patient care really amounts to the kind of change we're trying to drive." "This new partnership with GE Healthcare represents a major milestone for Capsule because it is about more than simply connecting devices to information systems. The GE Centricity Solution delivers collected data across the continuum of care for more informed decision making," said John Douglass, President, Capsule Tech, Inc. "GE Healthcare, like Capsule, understands the importance of getting timely and accurate patient data automatically recorded and integrated into a patient's electronic medical record, both for improved clinician efficiency and better patient care. More importantly, both companies realize the added benefits of ensuring that the data goes beyond the medical record to all areas of the hospital where the data is needed. The GE Centricity/Capsule Solution fills this need. We are excited to roll out Capsule as the connectivity solution of choice for the GE Centricity solution suite as it continues to be installed at hospitals across the country."

This relationship enhances an existing familiarity between the two brands, partnering to connect a number of perioperative sites across the country. "The implementation and support team have been great," said Edward Chip Cracraft, Healthcare Application Analyst at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). As the only academic health center in the state, OHSU is constantly seeking innovative solutions to help care for some of the region's most challenging patient cases. In this case, OHSU needed a way to connect five different, mixed vendor perioperative settings spread across the enterprise. OHSU integrated Capsule into the system's Centricity Perioperative suite. "The integration team has been responsive to our needs."
