EMIS Web Receives Full Roll-Out Approval

EMIS Group plcEMIS Group plc ("EMIS" or "the Group"), the UK's leading supplier of healthcare software and related services to GPs, has received full roll-out approval for its next generation system, EMIS Web. The approval covers the core GP functionality of EMIS Web and, as a result, EMIS is now able to initiate the controlled roll-out of the product.

As part of the accreditation process, EMIS Web has now been deployed at seven GP sites in England and 141 orders have already been received from practices wanting to move to the transformational new system. An additional 980 practices have requested a 'familiarisation service' allowing them to run the EMIS Web alongside their current EMIS system before upgrading.

EMIS Web electronically connects GPs with other NHS professionals by enabling secure, shared, centrally hosted access to patients' cradle-to-grave electronic health records held at the Group's data centres. The system has the capability to interconnect with other NHS patient data systems to:

  • save time and money by eliminating paperwork and the re-inputting of data;
  • significantly reduce patient waiting times; and
  • reduce the risk of prescribing and treatment errors.

Sean Riddell, CEO of EMIS Group, said: "EMIS Web represents the next generation of clinical software systems so we are delighted to have received full roll-out approval which enables us to begin a controlled roll-out of the product in this initial phase. As we stated at the time of our IPO earlier this year, securing full roll-out approval is a key milestone for the Group."

About EMIS Group
EMIS Group is the UK's leading supplier of software and related services to GP practices. 52.5% of GPs in the UK use an EMIS system, and EMIS software holds approximately 39 million patient records.

EMIS' core activities include software licensing and support, hardware support and maintenance services, hardware sales, third party software sales and training services.

The Group's software includes all of the functionality specified in NHS accreditation standards for GPs, including holding the patient's cradle to grave electronic healthcare record, practice appointment booking systems and consultation and intelligent prescribing modules.

EMIS Web represents the next generation of clinical software systems and the Directors believe it has the potential to transform the delivery of healthcare by enabling GPs and other healthcare practitioners to connect with each other and securely share access to a patient's cradle to grave electronic health record.

Established in 1987, EMIS' shares were listed on AIM under the trading symbol EMIS.L following a successful fundraising in March 2010.

In August 2010, EMIS' acquired 78.9% Rx Systems Limited, a supplier of integrated pharmacy and retail systems for community pharmacies. RX has a significant customer base of 2,500 pharmacies, representing a 20.5% share of this market.
