Cerner Deutschland GmbH Selected as New Member of Asklepios Future Hospital Program

CernerCerner Deutschland GmbH has joined the Asklepios Future Hospital Program (AFHP), which is administered by the Asklepios group, a leading hospital group in Europe. The AFHP is Europe's largest innovation platform in the information technology (IT) and medical device sectors and includes more than 25 industry partners. The goal of the program is to structure and streamline communication and data transfer in hospitals using state of the art technology. Cerner and the AFHP will strive to improve medical device infrastructure and create a solution for the centralized management of these devices. The collaboration aims to improve the maintenance process of healthcare devices, improve documentation quality and simplify clinician workflow. As a member of the program, Cerner will have the opportunity to pilot new solutions in live clinical settings and showcase them for patients and clinical staff, as well as interested visitors and potential German and international clients.

"The Asklepios Future Hospital Program emphasizes developing new mobile health and eHealth services and enhancing and optimizing clinical workflows. With Cerner, our alliance has gained a strong and competent new member to collectively develop innovative solutions for today’s healthcare challenges," said Uwe Pöttgen, CIO of the Asklepios group. "The goal of the AFHP is to increase communication and collaboration between all parties in an effort to positively shape our future healthcare system. We strongly believe Cerner will be a valuable contributor to this effort."

The Cerner CareAware iBus, which recently received its CE Marking certification from BSI on the basis of examination under Council Directive 93/42/EEC Annex II Section 3.2, was selected as Cerner's first pilot solution in the program. The Cerner CareAware iBus enables complete integration and management of medical devices across an entire organization. This increases patient safety by ensuring the right information is available at the right time within the electronic health record (EHR) and reducing the likelihood of data transcription errors. Connecting devices directly to the EHR automatically feeds the data gathered into the patient's record. Hospital efficiency is improved by requiring less time to review and input data from various devices, freeing clinicians to spend more time with patients at the bedside. In addition, optimized utilization significantly improves the device capacity. The hospital is enabled to improve compliance with their regulatory documentation requirements while saving time; yet the clinical advantage for patients, nurses and physicians remain the focal point.

"Cerner and the AFHP share a common vision of transforming healthcare to a model that revolves around the person," said Holger Cordes, general manager of Cerner Deutschland GmbH. "Innovation is the key to improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare. We are looking forward to working with the AFHP and its members to support this effort and to continue developing solutions that improve patient safety."
