InterSystems Iberia Receives the National Prize of Computer Science and Health 2008

InterSystemsInterSystems Iberia, a technology leader of healthcare solutions distinguished by its object-oriented databases and rapid systems integration, have been awarded with National prize of Computer science and Health 2008, of the Spanish Society of Computer science of the Health (SEIS).

The prize recognizes InterSystems Iberia as the organization who made the greatest technological effort in the development of solutions for the healthcare sector in Spain in 2008.

According to Carlos Lopez Bravo, InterSystems Iberia General Manager, "We are all delighted by this recognition of InterSystems achievements. For 31 years InterSystems has researched and developed solutions that make valuable contributions by addressing the real needs of information systems for healthcare organizations. This led us to always consider as high-priority objectives improving the attention to patient care, easing the tasks of the healthcare professionals, and the contribution of real-time management information and increased operational capacity. This important prize, for which we are most thankful to the SEIS, confirms to us that our approach is the right one."

Migration in record time
During 2008 InterSystems undertook such important projects as the migration of the integration software used by the public Hospital Costa del Sol to the InterSystems Ensemble® rapid integration platform. What was truly remarkable about this successful project was that the initial phase took place in only five days, and enabled the hospital to deliver essential processes critical to patient services that were impeded by the previous integration software. It also immediately provided the operational framework for increased reliability, agility, and a greater process capacity.

The main applications integrated in the new platform were: the HP-HCIS (Health Care Information System) from HP; the Anatomy Pathology (InfoPAT) application from Ingenia; a computer science Laboratory system (LILY) from Roche; the Pharmacy management system (Dominion); the Endobase (Olympus) pharmacy system and the prescription management application (PYXIS Starter).

Interoperability
Ensemble was also selected by the University Hospital La Paz, in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, to integrate the system management of its new Laboratory Results Center with the system management for the hospital Laboratories. The complex project was completed on schedule in less than a month.

The interconnection of these systems through Ensemble ensures the seamless and verified data management for patient registration, procedures, and associated laboratory tests, as well as obtaining patient demographic data from their local hospital. Additionally, Ensemble facilitates the rapid development of new processes to meet changing needs, and provides comprehensive process traceability that is vital for maintaining operational integrity.

International recognition
InterSystems is also receiving international recognition through its selection for numerous large and complex regional and national projects directly or jointly with its partners. Examples include AORTA the national infrastructure for the exchange of data between healthcare providers for The Netherlands, and the Swedish national electronic health record known as the National Patient Overview. Important regional projects include integrating GDF (Governo do Distrito Federal) in Brasilia, to connect all the healthcare centres, diagnostic laboratories, public pharmacies, and hospitals of the Federal District, and in the USA enabling physicians, with their patient’s permission, to access important patient health data from a variety of sources when and where it is needed for the two Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs) in Long Island and Rhode Island.

In addition, prestigious international consultants, such as KLAS, in their independent reports position InterSystems and their products as leaders for solutions in the healthcare sector.
