Electronic prescription project wins ComputerWorld Award

iSOFTComputerWorld magazine's ComputerWorld 2007 Award has been won by an iSOFT-backed electronic prescription project led by the Health and Consumer Council, in collaboration with the Balearics Healthcare Service (IB-Salut) and the Economy Tax and Innovation Council of the Balearic Islands, for its impact on the local population.

Since April 2006, iSOFT has worked with IB-Salut on the planning, development and implementation of the prescription and dispensing system. Presently being piloted in Ibiza, the system has been a huge success. During the six-month trial, 27,709 prescriptions were issued. It is used by 163 primary care doctors and 45 pharmacies in Ibiza. This month, the project will be expanded to cover all the primary care centres and pharmacies on the Balearic Islands. This phase of the project will be run throughout 2007 and 2008.

Katrina Díaz Solaz, managing director of iSOFT in Spain, said: "Without doubt, this is a pioneering project in Spain. Electronic prescription is part of the modernisation plans of almost all of the autonomous health communities of Spain, yet very few have a computer system in operation today."

ComputerWorld recognised the joint efforts of the Health Council, via the General Directorate of Pharmacy and IB-Salut, and the Economy, Tax and Innovation Council, via the General Directorate of Technology and Communications. Through integration with electronic clinical records, the health service has a complete treatment history for all patients.
