Tunstall Demonstrates Telehealth Solutions at Managing Long Term Conditions Conference

Tunstall HealthcareTunstall Healthcare will be demonstrating its latest telehealthcare solutions and showcasing results from recent telehealth deployments at this year's Managing Long Term Conditions Conference held in Harrogate.

Tunstall's Healthcare Strategy Director, David Cockayne, will deliver a workshop entitled "Embedding Telehealth at Scale - How to Transform the Management of Long Term Conditions", where he will discuss Tunstall's experience in partnering with public sector organisations to create successful telehealth programmes and exploring in depth the challenges that surround individualised telehealth deployments.

Tunstall will also explore the role of telehealthcare in the government's health and care reform, which aims to enhance the quality of life for those with long-term needs whilst ensuring health and social care services can deliver a cost-effective model of care.

Halton and St Helens: Using Telehealth to manage Long Term Conditions
Tunstall recently collaborated with NHS Halton and St Helens to improve the overall health and well being for residents living in the area, recognising the potential for telehealth in delivering improved outcomes and better patient experiences.

Following a 12-month pilot study to evaluate the most effective means of including telehealth within its care pathways, NHS Halton and St Helens noted a significant reduction in unplanned A&E attendances, preventing further exacerbation of patients' conditions and facilitating early discharge. The total cost savings were over £200,000 from just 80 patients.

Tunstall's telehealth service, which involved patients being given a mymedic device and associated peripherals, allowed patients to monitor their own vital signs on a daily basis. The mymedic also supports a 1-lead ECG as an additional peripheral for appropriate patients, allowing them to monitor their heart rhythm at home and avoid trips to hospital or their GP.

Following the pilot, patients reported an increased sense of satisfaction as they felt more in control of their condition, with 85% agreeing it gave them a better understanding of the impact their condition has on daily life.

Multi-User Telehealth Solution: icp myclinic
Tunstall will be exhibiting its latest telehealth solution icp myclinic, which enables a group of patients within a common location, such as a residential home, to participate in a shared telehealth programme.

The solution provides patients with personalised monitoring plans whilst sharing the use of a terminal and appropriate medical device peripherals that monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse rate and blood oxygen levels.

This innovative approach helps to reduce the need for visits to and by clinical staff, alleviating the demand on the healthcare system and supporting people in a community setting. Using telehealth in care pathways at the appropriate stages can help to improve the quality of care by anticipating possible exacerbations before they occur, reducing non-elective admissions to hospital and addressing those patients who, without intervention, may become future high intensity users.

North Yorkshire & York: Largest Telehealth Programme in UK
Representatives from NHS North Yorkshire and York will be present to discuss their experiences in redesigning care pathways to integrate telehealth into patient care. They will also expand on the positive impact that telehealth has on patients with long-term conditions and clinicians.

Following care pathway redesign and an extensive clinical engagement programme, Tunstall and NHS NYY are deploying over 2,000 icp mymedic home telehealth systems, which will be the largest telehealth project in the UK. Phase one of the programme showed a 40 percent reduction in non-elective hospital admissions and a 28 percent drop in A&E attendances. Further information will be available at the stand.

A large-scale survey was conducted to record patients' experience of telehealth in North Yorkshire and York. Results show 96% of patients would recommend the technology to others, with 98% either 'satisfied' or 'highly satisfied' with how it was helping them manage their condition.

The telehealth service now assists over 400 patients in North Yorkshire and York, providing patients with the support needed to better manage their long-term conditions. Further information will be available at the stand.

The first 100 visitors to the Tunstall stand will be provided with a resource pack, containing a wealth of materials to assist health professionals who wish to find out more about telehealth. The pack will include a full case study on the work undertaken by NHS North Yorkshire & York, Tunstall and Ernst & Young.
