Tunstall and Mears Sign Strategic Partnering Arrangement

TunstallTunstall Healthcare (UK) Ltd and Mears Group have signed a strategic partnering arrangement. The two leading organisations have joined forces to create a integrated, preventative service, delivered against a set of service outcomes, which could for example lead to an individual being enabled to live independently at home for longer. The offer switches the focus to a long term preventative approach.

The partnership represents a unique, integrated offer to social care, health and housing commissioners, which consists of reconfiguration of services, needs assessment and service provision.

Tunstall offers a full suite of products and services including hardware, software, installation, service, monitoring, training and consultancy. The partnership allows Mears to support the needs assessment, installation, logistics and mobile response elements of the proposition through experienced domiciliary care teams.

Tunstall, supported by Mears, has recently secured a long term contract with Birmingham City Council who have invested in a city wide telecare service which is planned to benefit up to 25,000 people over 3 years.

The Department of Health's Whole Systems Demonstrator Sites, the largest randomised control trial for telehealth and telecare, covering 6,000 people over three sites, is due to report on its evaluation before Christmas. The partnership will be well positioned to respond to the outcomes of this study.

Simon Arnold, UK Managing Director, Tunstall Healthcare says "It is very refreshing to have this injection of new ideas and innovation in the sector by working together with Mears to offer this integrated service to commissioners and service users. What we are already seen in Birmingham is how we can integrate across the care pathway to offer improved services to local citizens in a cost effective manner."

Alan Long, Executive Director at Mears says "Our agreement means that we are able to offer a joined up service, which is very attractive for the commissioner but more importantly, the service user's point of view. For example people don't want several different people coming into their home. We are focussed on streamlining services."
